Arcana 5 is The Hierophant in every tarot numbering, and on a Destiny Matrix chart it is one of the numbers you are most likely to meet. About 11% of dates have arcana 5 at the center, close to one date in ten has it as the Matrix sum, and the 5th and the 23rd give it in the day slot. The birth methods treat it more narrowly. The digit sum lands on 5 for roughly one birthday in nine between 1930 and 1999, but for only about 3% from 2000 to 2015. The Greer method never puts The Hierophant first: it is always the soul card behind Temperance, in a 14/5 pair, for about one birthday in nine. Greer years add a twist: a value of exactly 5 is available to three birthdays in 2026 and to none from 2029 until 2086.

The day slot gives arcana 5 to anyone born on the 5th or the 23rd, since 2 + 3 = 5, about one date in fifteen. Under the digit sum, as long as the birth year is no later than 2099, the dates that qualify are those whose eight digits total 5, 23, 32 or 41. Which of those totals is possible depends on the year. From 1930 to 1999 a total of 5 cannot happen, so every digit-sum arcana 5 there is a fold: 9 January 1930 totals 23 (1 + 9 + 3 + 0 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 9), 14 July 1991 totals 32 and 9 April 1999 totals 41. From 2000 to 2015 only the totals 5 and 23 remain, and 1 January 2001 is one of only 18 dates in those years whose digits total exactly 5 (2 + 0 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 1). The Greer route stays level at about 11% in both periods. In Greer's count the date is added up as whole numbers instead, and any total that is 5 more than a multiple of 9, from 23 to 158, ends in 14/5. 1 January 2001 is a Greer example too (1 + 1 + 20 + 1 = 23, then 2 + 3 = 5), and so is 14 July 1991 (7 + 14 + 19 + 91 = 131, then 13 + 1 = 14). For birthdays from 1930 to 1999 the Greer 14/5 dates and the digit-sum 5 dates turn out to be exactly the same dates, because no birthday in that range has digits totalling 14. From 2000 to 2015 the Greer group also takes in the dates whose digits total 14, which the digit sum keeps as Temperance.

Matrix readers take a day-slot arcana 5 as the card of the teacher and of shared rules: learning by apprenticeship, respect for what has been tested, and a liking for a method that others can follow. Readers who take the day slot as a person's everyday manner often describe a 5 there as someone who explains well and gets trusted with the procedure. Both roads end in the same pair, and The Hierophant is only ever the soul card. Readers tend to describe 14/5 as a measured, blending manner sitting over a respect for tradition: on that reading Temperance is the way a person handles everyday situations, mixing and adjusting, while The Hierophant behind it is the motive, a wish to belong to something with standards. • Destiny Matrix personal year 2026: 38 of the 366 possible birthdays land on 5, for example anyone born on 12 January, 17 May and 13 September.
• Greer year card for 2026: 3 of the 366 possible birthdays have a year total that reduces to 5, for example 3 January, 2 February and 1 March; the year runs from your 2026 birthday to your 2027 birthday.

In the Matrix, a personal year of arcana 5 is frequent. The count is 38 birthdays out of 366 in 2026, 40 in 2027 and 2028, then it dips to 26 in 2030 before climbing back to 38 by 2035, as the reduced digits of the year shift. The Greer side runs out. A Greer year total is the month plus the day plus the century plus the last two digits of the target year, and for 2026 that is at least 48, so a value of exactly 5 needs a total of 50: 3 January, 2 February and 1 March. In 2027 two birthdays qualify, in 2028 one, and from 2029 none until 2086. The Hierophant does not leave Greer years, though. A year value of 14 is written 14/5, and between 39 and 42 birthdays get one in each year from 2026 to 2035. Neither count is a forecast, and the Greer count switches over on your birthday, not in January.

How to check your own number

1. For the personal arcana, take the day of the month you were born. If it is above 22, add its digits (28 → 2 + 8 = 10).
2. For the arcana number, add every digit of the full date, then keep adding the digits of the total until it is 22 or less. Stop at 22 — do not fold it to 4.
3. For the birth cards, add month + day + the first two digits of the year + the last two digits, then reduce the Greer way; the free calculator shows the working for all three.
